Scott City Shuts Down Undefeated Chaffee with Combined No-Hitter

Scott City Rams Dominate Undefeated Chaffee Red Devils with Combined No-Hitter

In a stunning showdown for the Scott-Mississippi Conference title, Scott City Rams obliterated the previously undefeated Chaffee Red Devils 12-0 on the road Wednesday, delivering a rare combined no-hitter that rocked the league and ended Chaffee’s unbeaten streak. The dominant performance featured Kaden Lowery pitching 5 2⁄3 innings of flawless baseball before Braeden Walton closed out the no-hit effort in relief.

The Rams erupted offensively with three runs in the second inning, an overwhelming six-run burst in the fifth, and added three more in the sixth. Their pitching was equally unyielding as Lowery fanned seven batters and assisted on four inning-ending plays at first base.

Lowery’s Pitching Masterclass Seals Historic No-Hit Day

Lowery, a junior, punched out 17 outs without allowing a single hit. Despite issuing four walks and hitting a batter, he kept Chaffee scoreless and frustrated all afternoon. Walton, who recorded the final out, struck out the lone batter he faced, preserving the no-hitter for Scott City.

“Obviously, we didn’t expect it to be like that,” said Scott City coach Skylar Cobb. “Chaffee is a great team. We have battles every single year. They’re undefeated coming in and they’re beating teams handily, and we are too. We came in here with the mindset that we’re going to battle.”

Explosive Offense Lights Up the Scoreboard

The Rams opened the scoring in the second inning as Braeden Walton’s leadoff double set the stage for two RBI singles from Tyson Proctor and Lane Miller, pushing the lead to 3-0. The scoring surged in the fifth inning, sparked by a passed ball and an error that allowed runners to cross home plate early.

Scott City continued relentless pressure with hits from Jackson Gloth, Christopher Graff, and Miller, culminating in a nine-run lead by the inning’s end. The Rams capped the scoring in the sixth with Walton’s towering single and a wild pitch crossing the plate for run number twelve.

Offensively, Evan Boswell and Christopher Graff each delivered three hits with two RBIs, while Miller added three RBIs atop the lineup. Hanback and Walton also contributed key hits and a walk. Barrett endured a hit-by-pitch that loaded bases during the big fifth inning rally.

Chaffee’s Struggles Lead to First Loss After Undefeated Run

Chaffee’s starter, Jordan Essner, suffered a rough outing, surrendering 11 hits and nine runs in under five innings. He faced continuous pressure from Scott City’s aggressive bats and sharp fielding, while relief pitchers could not stem the tide.

Errors and defensive miscues, including three costly mistakes, compounded Chaffee’s woes, contributing to the blowout loss on home turf.

Scott City Targets Conference Title, Chaffee Looks to Rebound

With this decisive victory, Scott City sets its sights on securing the conference crown. They will host Notre Dame Thursday, May 7, looking to maintain their momentum and finish their season strong.

Chaffee, nursing its first defeat of the season, prepares to host Sikeston Friday, May 8, as part of the Harmon Field centennial celebration and aims to bounce back quickly.

This dominating no-hit performance electrifies the Scott-Mississippi Conference and signals Scott City as a formidable force in the race to the championship with performances like Lowery’s now etched in local baseball lore.
