On the boys side, the nail-biting medalist battle went to Creston’s Marshall Long, who edged Mount Ayr’s Avery Wolfe by one stroke with a 40 to Wolfe’s 41. Despite Long’s win, Mount Ayr’s overall team effort prevailed, posting a 174-183 dual meet score over the Panthers.
Mount Ayr’s strong showing was reinforced by Jaxson Greene (43), Tanner Streit (45), and Drew Graham (45), cementing their edge over Creston’s roster including Garrett Troutwine (44) and Kylen Parsons (49).
Junior Varsity Ties and Senior Night Honors Highlight the Evening
The JV competition was tight with Creston’s Javin Hyde and Mount Ayr’s Carter Levine tying at 44, underscoring the competitive depth across both programs. Prior to the meet, seniors from both schools were honored, including Creston’s Marshall Long, Izzy Spencer, and Mount Ayr’s Chasse Downing among others, marking a memorable night celebrating the athletes’ high school careers.
These results set the stage for Creston’s upcoming matches; the teams competed against Atlantic earlier this week and the boys are scheduled to travel to Denison for the Hawkeye Ten Tournament on Wednesday. The outcome signals Mount Ayr’s rising dominance as they build momentum heading deeper into the season.
