Maurepas Dominates Hackberry 10-2 to Reach Class C Semifinals

Maurepas Lady Wolves secured a decisive 10-2 victory over third-seeded Hackberry on the road April 24, propelling them into the Class C Louisiana State Softball semifinals in Sulphur. The sixth-seeded Maurepas squad stunned their opponents with early offensive firepower, jumping out to a 5-1 lead after just two innings.

Maurepas extended their advantage to 6-1 by the third inning before Hackberry managed to narrow the gap to 6-2. However, Maurepas responded quickly, adding a run in the fourth and surging with three more in the seventh inning to seal the emphatic win.

Strong Performances Ignite Maurepas Victory

Coach Gabrielle Varnado, who experienced the Louisiana state tournament as an athlete, expressed immense pride in her squad:

“I’m super proud of our girls! They’ve worked hard all season and they deserve to be there!”

The Lady Wolves showcased multiple standout performances at the plate. Layla Robinson posted a 2-for-4 day with three runs scored and an RBI. Saydie Sterling contributed two hits, including a double, alongside an RBI and run scored. Khloe Luquette delivered a pivotal home run, driving in two runs and scoring one.

Additional offensive stars include Gabby Bell with two hits and a run scored, Heydi Quamme with a hit and two runs scored, and Kayden Delatte who had both a run scored and an RBI. Sidney Lauzervich, the winning pitcher, added a timely RBI single.

Sidney Lauzervich earned the win by pitching the entire game, limiting Hackberry to just two runs on four hits. She struck out an impressive 13 batters while issuing five walks, showcasing complete control under pressure.

Maurepas now shifts focus to the semifinal showdown against second-seeded Claiborne Christian. The game is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on May 1, promising a fierce battle in the quest for a state title.
