Layton Police Seek Suspect in Shocking Unprovoked Assault at Gas Station
Layton, UT — Authorities are urgently searching for a man who violently attacked a local victim walking his dogs near a Chevron Gas Station on Hill Field Road and Antelope Drive in Layton late evening on April 28. The assault was captured on surveillance camera and involved a physical fight, a stolen knife, and a frantic 911 call.
According to Lieutenant Clint Bobrowski of the Layton Police Department, the incident began when the victim was approached without provocation by an unknown man who was visibly upset and screaming. The attacker, described wearing a green hoodie in the surveillance footage, aggressively confronted the man and even attempted to kick one of his dogs.
“The victim stated that while he was walking his dogs, the male suspect suddenly became aggressive and approached rapidly despite the victim backing away,” said Bobrowski. The situation quickly escalated into a physical altercation.
Surveillance video shows the attacker running up and trying to strike the victim’s dogs. The victim defended himself, resulting in one of the dogs biting the suspect. At one point during the fight, the victim drew a knife in self-defense, which the suspect forcibly took and fled the scene toward the nearby Quail Cove Apartments.
“There are several charges being considered including assault and theft of the knife,” Bobrowski confirmed. He reassured the public that this violent event appears to be isolated and that there is currently no broad safety threat in the community.
Locals echoed concern and disbelief about the random nature of the attack. Ko-Ko Kabwasa, a Layton resident who frequently walks his dog in the area, shared his shock.
“It’s kind of scary just to see what the world has come to… and then attacking the dog for no reason is baffling.”
Layton Police are urging anyone who recognizes the suspect in the surveillance footage to call 497-8300 immediately and reference case L26-10572. Authorities emphasize the suspect should not be approached due to the potential danger.
