UPDATE: The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has just announced it will pay off the mortgage for the home of fallen Burnsville firefighter and paramedic Adam Finseth. This generous act comes through their Fallen First Responder Home Program, part of the 2025 Season of Hope.
Finseth, aged 40, tragically lost his life on February 18, 2024, during a harrowing incident while responding to a domestic violence call in Burnsville. Alongside police officers Matt Ruge and Paul Elmstrand, both 27, Finseth was ambushed by a gunman during a standoff that endangered the lives of seven children and a woman inside the home.
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation, inspired by the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, highlighted Finseth’s courage in their announcement, stating he “acted without hesitation” in his last moments to protect others. Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann praised Finseth’s unwavering dedication, recognizing him as the department’s Firefighter of the Year after he bravely intervened in the middle of the night, despite it being his day off.
As negotiations with the suspect escalated, the situation turned deadly when the man opened fire on the officers. Finseth was critically injured while attempting to provide medical assistance to a fellow officer. The gunman later took his own life, but fortunately, the children and the woman escaped unharmed.
This mortgage payoff is a significant relief for the Finseth family, ensuring they can remain in their home during this incredibly challenging time. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation continues its mission to support the families of fallen first responders, providing them with critical financial assistance.
This heartwarming initiative not only honors the legacy of Adam Finseth but also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by emergency responders every day.
For those looking to support the Finseth family further, donations can be made through the Tunnel to Towers Foundation website.
As the community mourns this loss, they are also rallying together to ensure that the heroism of Adam Finseth is never forgotten. Stay tuned for more updates on how the community is coming together in support of the Finseth family.
