Brunswick Board Appoints James Boyeas as New Football Coach

The Brunswick Board of Education has appointed James Boyeas as the new head football coach for the school’s program, an announcement made on February 18, 2024. Boyeas, who previously coached for Lorain High School, brings experience and a successful track record, having led his former team to a Lake Erie League championship in 2024 with a commendable record of 9-2.

During his coaching stint at Lorain from 2024 to 2025, Boyeas guided the team through a transition to the Greater Cleveland Conference, where they faced some challenges. In the 2025 season, the Titans finished with a record of 2-8 and 1-6 in the conference. Reflecting on his time at Lorain, Boyeas expressed a mix of excitement and nostalgia. “I am definitely excited about this new opportunity, but there is also a bittersweetness too,” he said. “Lorain has been a great place for me, with great people.”

Boyeas acknowledged the strong connections he made at Lorain, particularly with students and staff. He emphasized the positive strides made with the team and the friendships he formed. His decision to leave was influenced by various factors, including recent cuts in Lorain’s school district, which contributed to an atmosphere of uncertainty regarding his future there. “You never know exactly what the trickle-down effect could be and what your teaching placement may or may not be. I would not say that it was the main reason, but it definitely did play a factor into everything,” he explained.

Despite exploring other coaching opportunities, Boyeas remained dedicated to his responsibilities at Lorain, which included overseeing the weight room program and supporting players like B.J. Serrano, who signed with Ohio Dominican University. His final session with the team took place on February 17, 2024, where he informed his players of his new position.

At Brunswick, the Blue Devils concluded the previous season with a record of 5-6, including a notable victory against Lorain, where they triumphed 39-18 in Week 6. Boyeas praised the Blue Devils for their disciplined play and physical style. The team qualified for the Division I Region 1 tournament but faced a narrow defeat against Massillon Jackson, ending the game 24-17.

Boyeas is optimistic about the prospects ahead, especially with a new generation of talent emerging from the middle school ranks. “Brunswick has very strong community support,” he stated. “It is definitely a unique place where it feels like you have that small-town football community that is all out there supporting and at games, but it is at a big level with a large school district.”

As Boyeas steps into his new role, he aims to build on the foundation laid by his predecessors while fostering a winning culture and continued community engagement in Brunswick football.
