James “Jim” Carufel, aged 79, passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy defined by devotion to family and a distinguished career in public service. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Barb Carufel, their sons Cory Carufel (Kristi) and Christopher Carufel (Haruko), as well as grandchildren Collette and Cayden.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Ben, and his sisters Jeanine and Leanne. His life was marked by both personal and professional achievements, reflecting a deep commitment to his community and family.
A Distinguished Career in Public Service
Jim graduated magna cum laude from St. Thomas University and went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from the University of Minnesota. His career included significant roles as Chief Financial Officer in city management and as Senior Vice President of TPT Public Television. Through these positions, he made lasting contributions to public service, demonstrating strong leadership and dedication.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim was passionate about nature and found immense joy at a rustic cabin he constructed by hand in the northern woods of Minnesota. This retreat was a sanctuary for him and his family, embodying his love for the outdoors and creating lasting memories.

Jim’s family was paramount in his life, and he often expressed that nothing mattered more than the time spent with loved ones. His approach to life emphasized the importance of family bonds, which will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
Visitation to honor Jim Carufel will be held on December 3, 2025, from 14:30 to 18:00 at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home, located at 2195 Woodlane Drive, Woodbury, Minnesota 55125. A private interment will take place at Gethsemane Cemetery in New Hope.
