Turning Point USA has announced its intention to support Vice President JD Vance in a potential run for the presidency in 2028. This declaration came from Erika Kirk, the newly appointed CEO of the organization following the tragic death of her husband, Charlie Kirk, on September 10, 2023, during an event at Utah Valley University.
During an appearance on the Megyn Kelly Show, Erika Kirk expressed that there are plans in place to rally support for Vance, should he choose to enter the race. She reflected on a discussion with her husband about the importance of backing Vance for the upcoming election cycle. “Let’s start with the midterms before we start jumping to ’28,” she noted, emphasizing the significance of focusing on current political efforts.
The Kirk family’s commitment to Vance aligns with previous endorsements from notable political figures. Earlier this year, Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Vance as a strong candidate for the presidency, stating, “I think JD Vance would be a great nominee…if he decides he wants to do that.” Rubio highlighted Vance’s effective role as vice president and referred to him as a close friend.
Former President Donald Trump has also expressed confidence in a potential ticket featuring Vance and Rubio, describing it as “unstoppable” for the 2028 election. Trump has remarked, “We have JD,” while affirming his positive view of Rubio’s capabilities.
Despite the growing speculation about his future candidacy, Vance has emphasized the need to prioritize the 2026 midterm elections. In a recent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, he stated, “We’re going to win the midterms, we’re going to do everything that we can to win the midterms.” Vance indicated that discussions regarding a presidential run would take place after the midterm elections conclude, highlighting his focus on fulfilling his current responsibilities.
As the political landscape evolves, the support of Turning Point USA could play a crucial role in shaping the dynamics of the upcoming presidential race. With Vance’s background and connections within the party, his potential candidacy remains a topic of considerable interest among political analysts and supporters alike.
