UPDATE: The beloved Santa Float is back! After a six-year hiatus limiting its route, the Torrance Police Officers Association (TPOA) has confirmed that the festive float will resume its full 26-night journey through the city starting this Sunday, November 30, 2023.
Santa will make a spectacular entrance at 4 p.m. via a red and shiny Robinson R66 helicopter, marking the return of a cherished tradition that has delighted Torrance families since 1992. The float, funded by the local Robinson Helicopter Company, promises to visit every residential street in Torrance this holiday season.
“This is a momentous return for our community,” said Marc Sandoval, president of the TPOA. “For over 30 years, the Santa Float has brought joy and excitement, and we are thrilled to bring it back to the neighborhoods where it all began.”
Due to staffing shortages and the COVID-19 pandemic, the TPOA had to limit the float’s appearances to just 10 nights in recent years, focusing only on major landmarks like Torrance Beach and City Hall. However, thanks to a renewed commitment from Robinson Helicopter and the Torrance Police Foundation, the float is set to reclaim its full route and restore the holiday spirit across Torrance.
Robinson Helicopter’s support is not just a seasonal fix. “This multiyear commitment ensures the float can operate not only this year but for many future holiday celebrations,” the company stated.
Residents are invited to witness Santa’s landing at the Robinson Helicopter Company campus, creating an exciting kickoff to the festive season. Following the landing, Santa will board the float and embark on his nightly route throughout December, spreading cheer to families across the community.
“This effort truly embodies what makes Torrance special – partnership, pride, and community spirit,” Sandoval added.
