Jane Elizabeth Heath, a beloved figure in her community, passed away on November 21, 2025, at the age of 67. She spent her final days at The Barron Center in Portland, Maine after a prolonged illness. Her family and friends remember her for her warmth, humor, and the joy she brought into their lives.
A Life of Accomplishments and Creativity
Born on November 3, 1958, in Bangor, Maine, Jane was the daughter of the late John and Jean (Harriss) Heath. After graduating from Hampden Academy, she pursued further education at Katherine Gibbs College in Boston and the University of Maine. Jane’s professional journey included significant roles, notably as the Director of Human Resources for DeLorme Mapping, where she contributed to the company’s growth during its early years. She also worked at Frank’s Bakery in Bangor, showcasing her versatility in various professional environments.
Beyond her professional achievements, Jane had a passion for creativity. She was known for her exceptional baking skills, particularly her famous carrot cake, which she generously shared at weddings for family and friends. At one point, she even operated her own catering business, highlighting her love for bringing people together through food.
A Passion for Life and Community
Jane’s zest for life extended to her love of travel. In her younger years, she explored the beauty of western Europe and the western United States, experiences that enriched her understanding of the world. A master knitter, she created beautiful blankets for newborns, a testament to her nurturing spirit and the deep connections she forged with family, friends, and acquaintances.
She leaves behind her sisters, Ellen Heath, Anne Stuart (John), and Margaret Carignan (Rob), along with her brother, Richard Heath (Barbara). Jane is also survived by her Aunt Anne, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, their children, and many dear friends.
In accordance with her wishes, a celebration of Jane’s life will take place in the spring of 2026, with the specific date yet to be determined. Jane will be laid to rest beside her parents in Bar Harbor.
