UPDATE: A tragic collision claimed the life of a 93-year-old woman on Route 222 in Muhlenberg Township Friday night. Elizabeth R. Brewer, a resident of Spring Township, was involved in a head-on crash with a tractor-trailer while driving the wrong way, as confirmed by the Berks County coroner’s office.
The accident occurred at approximately 9:00 PM near Stoudts Ferry Bridge Road. Officials reported that Brewer’s vehicle was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes when the collision occurred. She was pronounced dead at 9:48 PM by Deputy Coroner Jonn Hollenbach, who stated her death was due to multiple injuries and ruled it as accidental.
This devastating incident marks Brewer as the 28th fatality in 2023 from crashes on Berks County roads, raising urgent concerns about road safety in the area.
