UPDATE: Kansas State freshman Linkon Cure is making headlines as he overcomes early challenges in his football career. The highly-touted athlete from Goodland, Kansas, is now adjusting to the demands of the Big 12 after suffering a knee injury and missing fall camp.
Just recently, Cure reflected on his journey, stating, “It’s been rough, but it shows a lot about my perseverance.” His experience is especially poignant as he transitions from a small-town standout to a five-star recruit, ranked as the No. 30 overall player in the 2025 class by 247Sports.
Linkon Cure’s high school journey was nothing short of spectacular. With 1,049 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in his final season, he also excelled in track and field, shattering state records in the 110-meter hurdles. The athleticism runs deep in Cure’s family, with multiple relatives excelling in sports, including a brother who played football at Kansas.
Despite offers from major programs like Kansas, Oregon, and Texas A&M, Cure chose to commit to Kansas State, stating, “It’s a dream come true.” His late arrival on campus has forced him to adapt quickly, learning dual positions as coaches shifted him from tight end to wide receiver in response to team depth.
Head coach Chris Klieman acknowledged the challenges Cure faces. “When you come in as highly touted as he, those expectations are hard for a young person to handle,” Klieman noted. Cure has spent time on the scout team to adjust to the rigorous demands of Power 4 football.
After seven games, Cure has recorded five catches for 32 yards, with a season-high of 21 snaps in the Wildcats’ recent victory over Oklahoma State. As he continues to develop, Klieman remains confident in Cure’s potential, stating, “Sky’s the limit for him still.”
Reflecting on his journey, Cure expressed gratitude for his opportunity, saying, “I sat there as a kid watching, and now I have the ability to do it. It’s been awesome.” Fans are eager to see how Cure will continue to grow and contribute to the Wildcats’ success as the season progresses.
