British actor Harry Lloyd has been cast to portray producer George Martin in Sam Mendes’ highly anticipated four-part Beatles biopic. This announcement was confirmed by Giles Martin, George Martin’s son, during an interview on the Ryan Tubridy Show on Virgin Radio U.K. Giles Martin, who is involved in the project, praised Lloyd’s dedication and talent, calling him “great” and “committed.”
Harry Lloyd is widely recognized for his role as Viserys Targaryen in the first season of the acclaimed series *Game of Thrones*. His impressive résumé includes notable performances in British television series such as *The Fear* and *Wolf Hall*, along with appearances in international productions like *Manhattan*, *Counterpart*, *Brave New World*, and *Legion*.
The character of George Martin is pivotal in the narrative, although it is expected to be a supporting role. Martin, who passed away in 2016, is often referred to as the “Fifth Beatle” due to his significant contributions to the band throughout their career. He was the first producer to sign the Beatles, working with them on their debut album after other record labels had rejected the group.
From the start of their collaboration, Martin made groundbreaking decisions that shaped their sound. He allowed the Beatles to play their own instruments and record their own songs, encouraging them to retain their authentic Northern accents—practices that many producers at the time would not have permitted. Martin produced nearly every Beatles album, establishing himself as an essential figure in the studio.
Despite their strong partnership, the relationship between Martin and the band became strained towards the end of their career. He was reportedly sidelined during the recording sessions for *The White Album*, which led him to take a break in the middle of production. The only Beatles album he is not credited as the lead producer on is *Let It Be*, which was primarily produced by Phil Spector, although Martin still contributed to the project.
Lloyd joins an impressive ensemble cast that includes Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. The film also features a talented group of actresses portraying key female figures in the Beatles’ lives: Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Aimee Lou Wood as Pattie Boyd, Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono, and Mia McKenna-Bruce as Maureen Starkey.
The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event is currently in production and is scheduled for release in theaters starting in April 2028. As anticipation builds, fans and film enthusiasts alike are eager to see how Mendes will bring the iconic story of the Beatles and their legendary producer to the big screen.
