Pasadena’s Adaptive Sports Festival Thrives Despite Rainy Weather

UPDATE: Pasadena’s seventh annual Adaptive Sports Festival took place on November 15, 2025, at the Villa Parke Community Center, successfully adapting to inclement weather conditions. The event, designed for participants of all abilities, showcased a spirit of resilience and community engagement, even as rain threatened outdoor activities.

Attendees were excited to participate in a variety of sports including rugby, boxing, tennis, boccia, pickleball, and fencing. This year’s festival was significantly impacted by weather, prompting organizers to shift activities indoors, ensuring that the fun continued uninterrupted.

The festival was a collaborative effort between the City of Pasadena and the Triumph Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals with spinal cord injuries. “We are thrilled to see the community come together, showing that sports are for everyone, rain or shine,” said an official spokesperson from the Triumph Foundation.

Participants, including local youths such as Zane Maddocks from Huntington Beach, took part in adaptive boxing workshops, while others engaged in thrilling matches of rugby. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and excitement as children colored art projects and tried their hand at adapted drumming.

Despite the challenges posed by the weather, the festival attracted a strong turnout, highlighting the community’s commitment to inclusivity in sports. “This festival is not just about sports; it’s about building confidence and friendships,” shared Natália Mayara, a Paralympic athlete who attended the event.

The festival also featured various vendor booths, providing resources and information for attendees and families interested in adaptive sports. “Today was a testament to the positive impact of adaptive sports on our community,” remarked another participant.

Looking ahead, organizers are already planning future events, aiming to expand offerings and increase participation. The strong community response suggests that the Adaptive Sports Festival will continue to grow and inspire individuals of all abilities.
