Cleveland State University (CSU) recently recognized alumna Julie Onderak as a Student of Distinction for her outstanding achievements in both academic and professional domains. The accolade celebrates Onderak’s contributions to the university and her impressive trajectory as she approaches her 2025 graduation.
During her time at CSU, Onderak engaged in meaningful internships that paved the way for her current role with Karg Corporation. A pivotal moment in her academic journey was her participation in the Ohio Export Internship Program, where she gained invaluable insights into international business operations. “I learned to adapt to different cultures I encountered daily, adjusting my communication style based on who I was speaking with, where they were from, and their unique needs,” Onderak shared with CSU News.
Her success in the internship led to her employment with Karg Corporation, opening doors to further career opportunities. Beyond her professional achievements, Onderak emphasized the importance of the relationships she built with CSU faculty. She credits Chris Lees, an EAN counselor, and Jacob Ott, a career specialist, as significant mentors who provided guidance that extended beyond the curriculum.
Reflecting on her academic experience, Onderak noted how CSU fostered a growth mindset. “You won’t always know the answer, and that’s okay. As I have allowed myself to make mistakes and take this unwarranted expectation off myself, I have been able to learn things in ways I never could have under the weight of perfectionism,” she explained to CSU News. This perspective not only influenced her academic endeavors but also prepared her for the complexities of the professional world.
Leadership and Extracurricular Engagement
In alignment with CSU’s mission to cultivate leadership and service, Onderak’s involvement in extracurricular activities has been noteworthy. As a member of the board for the Entrepreneurship Club, she has played a role in guiding fellow students to valuable resources and opportunities. Looking ahead, Onderak plans to continue her work with Karg Corporation, acknowledging the vital role that the Ohio Export Internship Program played in her career path. “Without the OEIP, I would not be in the position I am fortunate and thankful to be in today,” she stated, underscoring the program’s impact on her professional trajectory.
