Norman Announces Veterans Day Closures, Parade on November 9

UPDATE: The City of Norman has just announced important details regarding Veterans Day observances, highlighting city office closures and ongoing services. On November 11, 2023, all administrative offices will be closed to honor the sacrifices made by military personnel, ensuring recognition of this significant day.

Despite the closures, essential services like sanitation and public transit will operate as usual. Residents can expect uninterrupted waste collection, including residential, yard waste, recycling, and commercial pickups. The sanitation division will maintain its regular schedule, with the Compost Facility and Transfer Station open during normal business hours.

Public transportation will also remain unaffected. The EMBARK Norman services and the city’s On-Demand transport will run on their usual timetables, providing vital accessibility for the community. For detailed schedules, residents can visit the City of Norman’s official website.

In a significant event, the annual Veterans Day parade and ceremony will take place on November 9, 2023, starting at 2 p.m. The parade is set to commence at the Reaves Park Softball Complex and will cover approximately three-quarters of a mile, culminating in a heartfelt memorial ceremony. This event, organized by the Veterans Committee, a volunteer group dedicated to honoring military service, underscores the community’s commitment to recognizing those who have served.

Please note that Norman Animal Welfare at 3428 Jenkins Avenue will be closed on Veterans Day, resuming normal operations the following day.
