Road Closure During Deer Season: Urgent Alert for Hunters

URGENT UPDATE: The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has just announced that the road through the Roseau Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA) will remain closed during the entire nine-day firearms deer season, starting Saturday, November 8, 2025. This critical closure affects hunters in Deer Permit Area (DPA) 267 in Roseau County and is expected to disrupt travel plans for many.

The construction on 360th Avenue, known as County Road 123, will restrict access to the area, including portions of Unorganized Township sections 17, 20, and 29. The closure begins a quarter-mile north of the Stoie Bridge, which crosses the Roseau River. This development is particularly significant for hunters preparing for the deer season, as it limits entry to prime hunting grounds.

The closure is part of the larger Roseau Lake Rehabilitation Project, a collaborative effort between the Minnesota DNR and the Roseau River Watershed District. This initiative aims to restore the 3,000-acre Roseau Lake within the WMA, mitigate flood damage to surrounding private lands, and prevent overtopping of 360th Avenue during high water events.

Hunters and residents are encouraged to stay informed about the ongoing construction and its impact on access to the area. For the latest updates, visit the DNR’s Roseau Lake WMA webpage or contact the Roseau River WMA office at (218) 452-7610.

As the deer season approaches, the urgency of this announcement cannot be overstated. Hunters must plan accordingly to ensure they can access alternative routes while the road remains closed. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
