JT Thomas Retires to Bali After Exiting Southern Charm

Jarrett “JT” Thomas, known for his role on the reality television series Southern Charm, has announced his retirement and relocation to Bali, marking a significant lifestyle change following his exit from the show last year. On November 2, 2024, he shared his decision with followers via Instagram, stating, “Today’s the first day of my journey in life. I have pulled the rip chord. I am living in Bali. Just retired if you want to call it that.”

In his post, the 40-year-old former reality star expressed that he feels ready to start anew after a lifetime spent in the United States. He hinted that the current political climate in America influenced his decision to leave South Carolina. “Honestly, I don’t even think it needs [an] explanation,” he said, adding that many might resonate with his feelings of discontent. He declared, “Enough’s enough,” emphasizing the necessity for a change.

JT is in the process of selling all his possessions in the U.S., including his business and real estate assets. He conveyed that he might consider returning to America “when things become normal again, if that ever happens.” The transition, while exciting, comes with personal sacrifices, as he acknowledged leaving behind friends and family. “I don’t know a single person,” he admitted, noting that he has already made financial commitments in Bali, including paying rent for November, which means he will not be returning to Charleston for Thanksgiving.

He described Bali as “incredible” and “paradise,” yet he is aware of the challenges of forging new connections. “If I don’t make friends and build a community, sooner or later I’m going to feel lonely,” he reflected. Despite the difficulties, he remains optimistic about his fresh start, stating, “It’s not easy to start over but it’s exciting.”

This decision follows JT’s exit from Southern Charm prior to the premiere of its tenth season. He had joined the Bravo series for its ninth season in 2023. In a candid statement on Instagram in November 2024, he declared, “I no longer wish to participate in any ways moving forward with the TV show,” indicating a desire to move past the challenges he faced during his time on the show.

Throughout season nine, JT encountered numerous conflicts with fellow cast members, including Austen Kroll and Madison LeCroy. His interactions often resulted in backlash, especially after implying infidelity on Kroll’s part and suggesting jealousy from LeCroy’s husband regarding their interactions. Additionally, he was accused of racism towards Venita Aspen, a longtime friend and brief romantic interest, which he has vehemently denied.

The fallout from these conflicts culminated in the season ten reunion, where JT was criticized for his past behavior. Despite not mending all relationships within the cast, he offered partial apologies for his actions during the turbulent season.

With the new season of Southern Charm set to premiere on November 19, 2024, at 21:00 ET on Bravo, fans are left to speculate about the direction of the show following JT’s departure. His bold move to retire in Bali showcases a personal journey that resonates with many seeking change and new beginnings in uncertain times.
