UWS Secures UMAC Titles in Soccer and Cross Country Today

UPDATE: Wisconsin-Superior (UWS) has made headlines today after clinching significant victories in men’s soccer and men’s cross country, showcasing their dominance in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).

In a stunning display, the UWS men’s soccer team crushed Martin Luther with a staggering score of 8-0 at Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium. The Yellowjackets kicked off the match with a flurry of goals, netting four within the first 18 minutes, including two from standout Bryce Boldt. The team, boasting a flawless 12-0 record in the UMAC, had already secured their eighth consecutive league title after defeating Bethany Lutheran 4-0 just a day earlier.

As the clock ticked, UWS wasted no time taking the lead, scoring within two minutes of kickoff. Jake Kidd opened the scoring, followed by goals from Jacob Wyles and Kidd again, who made it 3-0 moments later. The Yellowjackets will now host fourth-place Crown in the tournament semifinals on Wednesday at 5:00 PM.

Meanwhile, the UWS women’s soccer team faced a disappointing end to their four-year championship reign, finishing the season in third place after a 2-1 loss to Bethany Lutheran. Despite dominating with 20 shots to their opponent’s nine, they struggled to convert until the 89th minute when Niamh Larson found the net. The women’s team will battle it out on the road against Bethany Lutheran on Wednesday at 4:30 PM for a shot at the conference championship.

In cross country, the UWS men continued their legacy by winning their eighth consecutive UMAC title, sweeping the top four positions at the championship meet in Winthrop, Minnesota. Dylan Uitto led the pack with a personal record of 26:18.1 in the 8-kilometer course. The women’s team secured a commendable fourth place, led by Lilley Smith.

The UWS men’s hockey team opened their season with a commanding 7-0 victory over Marian, while the women’s hockey team is still searching for their first goal after back-to-back shutouts against Lake Forest.

With these dynamic developments, the UWS athletic programs are setting the stage for an exciting conclusion to the season. Fans and supporters are encouraged to stay tuned as these teams continue their pursuit of excellence in the UMAC.
