Route FF Reopens Early in Callaway County, Boosting I-70 Plans

UPDATE: Route FF in Callaway County has officially reopened ahead of schedule, a significant milestone in the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) efforts to enhance the I-70 corridor. The road was previously closed due to construction work related to an overhead railroad bridge, which has now been successfully removed, allowing traffic to resume.

This reopening, completed on October 30, 2023, just 16 days after construction began on October 14, represents a rare win for efficiency in roadwork. The swift progress is part of MoDOT’s ambitious $405 million Statewide Improve I-70 Program, aimed at upgrading nearly 200 miles of the highway across Missouri.

Authorities emphasize that this milestone is only the beginning. The upgrades will include the addition of a third lane in each direction, repaving efforts, and improved interchanges between Columbia and Kingdom City. These enhancements are designed to boost traffic flow and safety on this critical route.

MoDOT officials have issued a reminder to motorists: “Please work with us by buckling up, putting your phone down, obeying all traffic signs, and slowing down in work zones.” This message underscores the importance of safety as roadwork transitions into a new phase.

In addition to the I-70 improvements, Missouri’s FY2024 budget allocates $2.8 billion in general revenue for various infrastructure projects, which includes plans for further expansions on I-70 from Blue Springs to Wentzville.

As this project unfolds, motorists can expect to see continued advancements aimed at enhancing their travel experience. The successful reopening of Route FF signals not just a return to normalcy but also the promise of safer, more efficient travel along one of Missouri’s key highways.

Stay tuned for more updates as MoDOT continues to push forward with its infrastructure initiatives.
