UPDATE: A tragic house fire in College Point has resulted in the death of an 85-year-old woman and injuries to two firefighters. The incident unfolded early on Monday, October 27, as the FDNY responded to emergency calls at 5:16 a.m. regarding a blaze on the first floor of a private residence located at 124-07 26th Ave.
Within minutes, 14 fire units and approximately 70 firefighters and EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene. The fire was successfully brought under control by 6:37 a.m., but during a subsequent search of the premises, firefighters discovered the elderly woman unconscious and unresponsive.
Emergency Medical Services rushed her to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she was initially listed in critical condition. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. The victim’s name has not been released as authorities await family notification.
In addition to the tragic loss, two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the operation and were also transported to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital for treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed, but they are expected to recover.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by FDNY fire marshals. This incident underscores the dangers faced by firefighters and the devastating impact of such tragedies on families and communities.
