Clarkston’s Holy Family Haven Opens 72 Affordable Apartments

BREAKING: Clarkston has just unveiled the Holy Family Haven, a new complex offering 72 affordable housing units for families in need. The grand opening ceremony, held on Wednesday, celebrated the contributions of local students from Holy Family Catholic School, whose artwork and enthusiasm helped name and inspire the project.

According to Jonathan Mallahan, executive director of Catholic Charities Housing, half of the units are already occupied, with more families moving in shortly. “It was so nice to have all of the Holy Family students there to celebrate the grand opening,” Mallahan stated, highlighting the community’s engagement in this vital initiative.

The Holy Family Haven, located at 1411 Port Drive, was blessed by a priest during the ceremony attended by city leaders and community members. Mayor Monika Lawrence praised the project, stating, “John Pilcher, executive director of Horizon Housing Alliance, promised Clarkston a top-notch housing project, and he really delivered.”

This development is not just a shelter; it is a community aimed at providing families with a safe and secure environment. Mallahan emphasized the complex’s role as a “foundation for families to make lasting changes in their lives and achieve their goals.” Currently, 30% of the units remain available for families earning between 30% and 60% of the area median income.

The Holy Family Haven project received a substantial investment of $31.4 million from KeyBank Community Development Lending & Investment. Of the 72 units, 35 are specifically allocated for individuals who have experienced homelessness. In addition to housing, residents will benefit from a “robust suite” of support services, including mental health counseling, substance abuse recovery support, transportation to medical appointments, senior support, and employment assistance.

Mallahan noted that fresh, healthy food distribution will also be part of the community offerings, ensuring families have access to nutritious resources.

For families interested in applying to live at the Holy Family Haven, applications can be submitted at housing.cceasternwa.org/how-to-apply. This initiative marks a significant step toward addressing housing needs in Clarkston and enhancing community well-being.

As the complex opens its doors to new residents, the impact of Holy Family Haven is poised to ripple throughout the community, transforming lives and providing hope for a brighter future.
