Richard Allen Forward, a respected figure from Red Bluff, California, passed away on September 15, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on February 1, 1936, he was the son of Alva and Berenice Forward and grew up in a close-knit family as one of five siblings. Richard’s journey through life was marked by hard work, dedication, and a profound love for his family.
Richard began his education at Rockland School, a one-room schoolhouse, before progressing to Lincoln Street Elementary School and eventually graduating from Red Bluff Union High School. He furthered his education at Shasta Junior College and Chico State University, laying a solid foundation for his diverse career.
In 1957, Richard founded Merchants Janitorial Service, which he ran for ten years while also working nights in the lumber industry with Forward Brothers Lumber Company, U.S. Plywood, and Commander Industries in Red Bluff and Texarkana, Texas. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to the insurance sector, where he first worked with the California Farm Bureau. In 1984, he established the Richard Forward Insurance Agency, which he operated with pride until his retirement in 1991.
A Life Filled with Adventure and Love
Retirement did not mean a slowdown for Richard. Instead, it marked the beginning of a new chapter characterized by travel, golf, and cherished moments with his wife and best friend, Ann Forward. Together, they raised five daughters and shared countless adventures, exploring the country in their RV and enjoying serene days at their beloved cabin near Manton.
Whether it was golfing in picturesque locations, dancing together, or simply watching sunsets side by side, Richard and Ann exemplified a partnership filled with laughter, loyalty, and deep affection. Richard’s legacy is enriched by their shared adventures and the love they cultivated over decades.
He is survived by Ann and their five daughters: Berenice Forward, Christy Forward (Bill Galbraith), Kelly Forward, Jill Etzler (Matt), and Jennifer Skinner (Patrick). Richard’s family also includes 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as many close friends who will remember him for his character and ability to make others feel valued.
Celebrating a Remarkable Life
Richard will be remembered for his dedication to family, his strength of character, and his uplifting spirit. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, November 13, at 13:00 at the Presbyterian Church in Red Bluff. Following the service, friends and family will gather to honor Richard’s remarkable life.
