Marshall Community Gathers for Historic 75th National Day of Prayer
Marshall, Texas—Under clear blue skies, dozens of Harrison County residents and the First Responders Prayer Force gathered Thursday on the historic courthouse lawn to mark the 75th anniversary of the National Day of Prayer. The powerful event brought the community together for an hour-long scripture reading and prayer, showing deep local support for law enforcement, first responders, and national unity.
The First Responders Prayer Force, a group committed to praying daily for local law enforcement, fire officials, and all first responders, led the event from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Participants read the Bible aloud together, covering the entire text in 125 assigned sections. Flo Davis, First Responders Prayer Force program coordinator, described the unique event format: “We divide the Bible into 125 sections and give everyone a piece.” The free event also provided attendees with complimentary lunch, allowing people to join the occasion without missing their midday meals. “They can come out and sit in their lawn chairs, have their lunch, and celebrate with us,” Davis said.

The afternoon concluded with inspirational singing by Ann Leslie Tijerina and a heartfelt prayer from Guy Barr, Athletic Director at Marshall Christian Academy. Barr voiced a call for healing and unity, urging the community to “rededicate this land, Marshall, Texas, to Jesus Christ” in light of President Donald Trump’s upcoming national jubilee of prayer, praise, and thanksgiving commemorating America’s 250th birthday on May 17.
“We join President Donald Trump and his office in rededicating this land to Jesus Christ … May His word travel swiftly and be glorified,” Barr prayed.
Barr also lifted up prayers for national and local leaders, schools, churches, the military, and first responders. “We lift up Harrison County and the city of Marshall. Bless our communities with unity, safety, and prosperity,” he said, referencing Jeremiah 29:7 about seeking peace.
Harrison County Judge Sims expressed gratitude for the large turnout: “It’s a terrific day to get out here and join together to pray and read scripture,” he said, reflecting the event’s significance in strengthening community ties during challenging times.
