Hahnville Clinches Dramatic Walk-Off Win to Capture State Softball Title

Hahnville Tigers Win Nail-Biting 6-5 Walk-Off to Secure State Softball Championship

The Hahnville Tigers delivered a dramatic finish in Sulphur as Jordyn Chaix smashed a two-out, walk-off single to cap a thrilling 6-5 victory over Live Oak in the Division I non-select state championship game. The win marks Hahnville’s first state softball title since 2011, igniting jubilation across the team and coaching staff.

The championship game unfolded as a wild back-and-forth battle with momentum swinging multiple times. Live Oak struck early, scoring twice in the top of the first inning to grab a 2-0 lead. But Hahnville responded immediately in the bottom half as star slugger Rylee Villasenor cleared the bases with a three-run homer, flipping the score in the Tigers’ favor.

Villasenor, who blasted two home runs and drove in five runs in the contest, earned Outstanding Player of the Tournament honors for her offensive explosion. “This is once in a lifetime,” Villasenor said. “Not everyone can say they made it to Sulphur and even fewer can say they won it all there.”

Final Inning Heroics Seal Historic Victory

The game remained tight throughout with Live Oak tying the score 5-5 in the sixth inning thanks to clutch singles and critical walks. The tension built in the bottom of the seventh as Villasenor drew a key intentional walk to put herself in scoring position.

With two outs, Jordyn Chaix stepped up and kept her composure under pressure. Her sharply hit single found the outfield, allowing Villasenor to sprint home and secure the championship-winning run. “I had so much faith in her speed,” Chaix said. “Walking to the plate, I knew I had a big job to do and I’m so excited for everyone on our team.”

Head Coach Jeremy Duplantis, in his second season guiding the Tigers, celebrated the team’s resilience and mental toughness. “Every time Live Oak scored, our girls came back stronger,” Duplantis explained. “Our tough schedule prepared us mentally for this moment. Knowing what the prize is kept us focused.” This is Duplantis’ second state title in three years, having won previously with Vandebilt Catholic in 2024.

This victory resonates beyond Hahnville, exemplifying the power of perseverance and teamwork under pressure. For Villasenor, the championship is a career highlight and a moment she’ll never forget. “I can’t even describe it,” she said after the win.
