Durango Girls Lacrosse Crushes Santa Fe Prep 13-2 in Senior Night Rally

Durango Demons Explode Past Santa Fe Prep 13-2 in Senior Night Thriller

Durango High School girls lacrosse roared back from last week’s tough loss with a dominant 13-2 victory over Santa Fe Prep in a thrilling senior night clash on Friday.

The Demons wasted no time establishing control, jumping ahead early and never looking back. Their lightning-fast transitions and aggressive defense overwhelmed the Blue Griffins throughout the game. Durango’s defense relentlessly disrupted Santa Fe’s offense, earning countless ground balls and stick checks that led to fast-break scoring opportunities.

Coach Eric Elliot praised his team’s senior night success, noting, “I think I’m undefeated on senior nights and so is the team, so that’s pretty good.” With the win, Durango improved its season record to 8-3, while Santa Fe fell to 0-2.

Offensive Firepower and Defensive Grit Define Durango’s Victory

Leading the charge was junior Indie Eaton, who tallied four goals and two assists, showcasing sharp offensive instincts. Freshman Janelle Dingler contributed an impressive three goals and three assists, while senior Taylor Babcock added three goals and an assist. Junior goaltender Jody Holden was a stalwart in goal, recording six key saves to stifle Santa Fe’s attempts.

The game exploded off the whistle with Durango netting three goals in the first four minutes. Sophomore Keelyn Reynolds disrupted passes and snatched 10 turnovers — a potential school record — fueling fast transitions. Coach Elliot noted Reynolds’ hockey-like anticipation and tactical stick work, saying, “She’s setting up her defender to go by her and then jumps the pass immediately.”

Despite Santa Fe’s goalie pulling off multiple close-range stops, Durango maintained relentless pressure to lead 7-0 at halftime. The second half saw more of the same dominance. Durango’s possessions and scoring chances grew as Santa Fe struggled to establish offensive rhythm, falling behind 11-2 entering the final quarter.

Seniors Shine Bright in Final Frame and Ceremony

The fourth quarter delivered a highlight for Durango’s seniors with Babcock assisting Eaton’s goal and senior Scarlett Ramsey scoring her second goal of the season. The team capped the night with a heartfelt senior night ceremony celebrating Babcock, Laurel Dondlinger, and Ramsey. “Their leadership is amazing,” Coach Elliot said, credited with guiding a roster featuring 10 new players and just one experienced newcomer.

Durango now sets its sights on a home matchup against Telluride on Wednesday at 4 p.m. as the Demons aim to maintain momentum and climb the standings.

This commanding win against Santa Fe Prep shows Durango’s resilience and team unity, spotlighting rising talent and senior leadership in a competitive season that remains dynamic and full of promise.
