Pike County High School Literary Team Wins 2-AA Region Championship

Pike County High School’s Literary Team has secured the title of Region 2-AA champions, demonstrating exceptional talent and determination in the face of a challenging competition. The team triumphed in a closely contested match, winning by a mere two points. This achievement qualifies several students to participate in the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) State Literacy competition scheduled for March 21, 2024.

Team leader and PCHS teacher Laura Douglas expressed immense pride in her students, stating, “It was a tight race, but we won by two points. I’m so proud of this group. It was a rough preseason with many ups and downs, but they did it!” The hard work and dedication of the students have paid off, setting the stage for their upcoming state-level challenges.

Top Performers Shine in Regional Competition

Numerous students from Pike County High School excelled in various categories, earning top placements that highlight their skills and preparation. Ollie Booker clinched first place in the Essay-Argumentative category, while Kimberly Badgett took first in Essay-Personal. Calli Florence distinguished herself with a first-place finish in Extemporaneous Speaking-International.

In the Literary Interpretation categories, Miranda McIntyre achieved first place in Literary Interpretation-Solo, and the duo of Annabella Collins and Summer Godwin also earned first place in Literary Interpretation-Duo. Their performances not only reflect individual talent but also the collective strength of the team.

Other notable achievements included Presli Ready, who secured second place in Essay-Literary Analysis, and Marlee Colwell, who earned third place in Extemporaneous Speaking-Domestic. Timmy Walker and Emily Harmon both achieved third and fourth places, respectively, in their solo performances, showcasing the depth of talent within the team. The girls’ trio of Courtney Allen, Macey Carlistle, and Emily Harmon rounded out the accomplishments with a fourth-place finish.

Looking Ahead to State Competition

As the Pike County Literary Team prepares for the state competition, the excitement continues to build. The successful outcomes at the regional level have not only boosted the students’ confidence but also highlighted the importance of teamwork and perseverance.
