This campaign occurs against a backdrop of heightened military readiness in the Middle East, as President Donald Trump has indicated a willingness to utilize military force should negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program fail. The latest round of discussions is scheduled to take place on March 15, 2024, in Geneva.
The CIA’s social media outreach included posts on platforms such as X, Instagram, Facebook, Telegram, and YouTube on March 12, 2024. The agency aims to establish secure communication channels with potential sources inside Iran, China, North Korea, and Russia. The message emphasizes the need for caution, advising individuals to protect their identities and avoid using work devices for communication. Recommendations include utilizing disposable devices and maintaining awareness of one’s surroundings.
The guidance outlines that those wishing to contact the CIA should provide their names, job titles, and any relevant information or skills that could assist the agency. Individuals are also encouraged to use trusted Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) that operate outside of Russia, Iran, or China, or to use the Tor Network for secure communication.
The CIA has not commented on this recruitment effort. Additionally, Iran’s delegation to the United Nations has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding these developments. As negotiations unfold, U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will meet with Iranian officials led by Abbas Araqchi to discuss the nuclear program, an issue that remains a focal point of tension between the two nations.
President Trump has made it clear that he would consider military action if the negotiations do not yield a satisfactory agreement. He has described Iran as the “world’s biggest sponsor of terrorism” and has positioned military readiness as a critical aspect of U.S. foreign policy regarding Tehran.
