LeRoy Forehand, a distinguished World War II veteran and long-time resident of Torrance, California, passed away peacefully of natural causes on February 7, 2026. He was 103 years old. Forehand was born in Grinnell, Iowa, and relocated to southern California in 1941, where he embarked on a career with Lockheed Aircraft as an aircraft ordnance technician, primarily working on the P-38 fighter planes.
In August 1942, Forehand enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving valiantly in the Pacific theater during World War II. Notably, he held the position of Beach Master on Saipan in 1945, demonstrating leadership and commitment during a pivotal time in history. After the war, he returned to southern California, where he continued his professional journey at TRW and later at CALTRANS until his retirement.
Community Engagement and Legacy
Forehand was deeply engaged with his community, joining the Gardena Masonic Lodge in 1960, where he eventually attained the office of Master. His dedication to service extended beyond the Masonic Lodge; he was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and served on the Honor Guard at Post 1622 in Lomita for more than 20 years. Forehand also supported the USS Iowa and was a regular participant in the Torrance Armed Forces Day Parade, showcasing his enduring commitment to honoring fellow veterans.
He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Ann Forehand, who carries on his legacy of service and dedication. Friends and family will have the opportunity to pay their respects during a viewing at Halverson, Stone and Myers Mortuary, located at 1223 Cravens Ave., Torrance, on February 26 from 16:00 to 19:00. A memorial service will follow at the mortuary chapel on February 28 at 10:00.
Following the memorial service, Forehand will be laid to rest at Green Hills Cemetery. The community is invited to a celebration of life at the Lomita VFW Post 1622, located at 1865 Lomita Blvd, after the interment, providing an opportunity for those who knew him to share memories and honor his contributions to both his country and community.
