Battlefield 6 Season 2 Introduces New Gas Mask Mechanics

The highly anticipated Season 2 of Battlefield 6 has introduced a revamped gas mask system, enhancing gameplay dynamics with the addition of the new VL-7 hallucinogenic smoke. This update not only brings back the gas mask but also modifies how players can utilize it in combat situations, requiring strategic planning to maximize its effectiveness.

Equipping the gas mask is straightforward. Players can activate it at any time by holding the X key on a keyboard or pressing up on the D-Pad for controllers. Those who prefer customized controls can rebind these settings to allow for quicker access, such as equipping the mask with a single press instead of a hold.

Once equipped and exposed to the VL-7 smoke, players will notice the equip icon change to yellow, accompanied by a descending line. Additionally, a numeral indicator will appear in the top right corner of the icon. Similar to the mechanics in Call of Duty: Warzone, the gas masks in Battlefield 6 feature durability metrics when navigating through VL-7 smoke. Each mask lasts approximately 15 seconds. After this period, it becomes ineffective, leaving players vulnerable to the smoke’s hallucinogenic effects.

Fortunately, players can replenish the mask’s charges by positioning themselves near a Support’s Supply Bag. This resource recharges the gas mask at roughly double the rate of its degradation, allowing players to accumulate up to five mask charges before the smoke’s effects render the mask useless.

Importantly, the gas mask does not degrade while equipped outside of the orange VL-7 smoke, though visibility remains impaired due to the mask’s design. Players are advised to keep the mask on when navigating near gas clouds, particularly if they have limited charges. Gaining the full five charges from a Supply Bag before transitioning between objectives covered in orange smoke can significantly enhance survivability during chaotic encounters.

It is worth noting that gas masks do not mitigate visibility issues in any type of smoke, including that produced by smoke grenades. The smoke grenades only obscure vision without any additional adverse effects, maintaining consistency with previous gameplay experiences.
