The 2026 Winter Olympics officially commenced with an eye-catching Opening Ceremony in Milan, where athletes from 93 countries showcased a stunning array of stylish outfits. Team USA’s aerialists shared their enthusiasm for their attire, with Connor Curran proclaiming, “We’re going to look awesome. We definitely have the best outfits, in my opinion.” This year marks the 10th Olympics for which Ralph Lauren has designed the opening and closing kits for the American team, featuring tailored winter white wool coats adorned with nostalgic wooden toggles.
As co-flag bearer Erin Jackson prepares to take center stage, she is set to stand out in a navy outfit that captures the essence of the formal occasion. Another Team USA athlete, Quinn Dehlinger, expressed pride in their presentation, stating, “The opening ceremony is very formal, and I think we all look very dapper.”
Global Fashion Showcase Highlights Unique Designs
The Opening Ceremony also included a fashion showcase that highlighted the creativity of various nations. Team New Zealand’s athletes sported an all-black ensemble that featured a hidden QR code, allowing fans back home to send messages of support directly to their athletes. Meanwhile, Team Australia made a statement with a coat that features the Olympic oath and the names of every Australian who has participated in a Winter Olympics.
Despite sending only three athletes, Mongolia is poised to capture attention with their standout outfits. Curran noted, “I know Mongolia has got some cool outfits for the ceremonies and other countries do, but ours are pretty cool too.”
Italian Elegance on Display
The host nation, Italy, dressed its team in Armani, further enhancing the glamorous atmosphere of the ceremony. The combination of athletic prowess and high fashion showcased at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics sets a vibrant tone for the events to come.
As the world’s attention turns to the competition, the intersection of sport and fashion at this year’s Olympics promises to be just as exhilarating as the athletic performances themselves.
