Late on January 27, 2026, a routine traffic stop on Route 9 in New Castle, Delaware, resulted in the arrest of four individuals after law enforcement discovered a handgun and over 489 grams of marijuana in their vehicle. According to the New Castle County Police, detectives from the Active Crime Trends Team initiated the stop around 21:30 local time, targeting a blue Tesla Model Y near the intersection of Memorial Drive and Route 13 for an alleged traffic violation.
The driver, identified as Michael Rivera, 21, from Wilmington, reportedly lacked a valid driver’s license. As detectives interacted with Rivera and the vehicle’s occupants, which included Anyea Hynson, 23; Kevin Rivera, 18; and Tylere Brown-Hall, 19, both from Wilmington, they observed drug paraphernalia. This observation provided probable cause for a search of the vehicle.
During the search, police reported finding a 9mm handgun and a significant amount of prepackaged marijuana concealed within the car, along with additional drug paraphernalia. Further investigation revealed that Tylere Brown-Hall was prohibited from possessing a firearm, raising the stakes of the situation.
Charges and Detentions Following the Incident
All four individuals were taken into custody and transported to the New Castle County Police Headquarters for processing. Anyea Hynson faces multiple felony charges, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to deliver, and conspiracy, as well as a misdemeanor charge related to drug paraphernalia. Following her arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 11, she was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution after failing to post a cash bail of $74,500.
Meanwhile, Michael Rivera is charged with several felony offenses, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. He was also arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after unable to secure $84,602 in cash bail.
In addition, Tylere Brown-Hall was charged with possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited and committed to the same institution after failing to meet a $3,000 cash bail. Kevin Rivera was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and was also committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution after failing to post $10,000 in cash bail.
Officials emphasize that all charges are allegations, and every suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
