Toledo Opera has unveiled two exciting events aimed at generating enthusiasm for its upcoming production of Gaetano Donizetti’s classic opera, The Elixir of Love. The first event, titled “Get Into the Spirit of Opera,” is set to take place on January 29, 2026, starting at 17:30 local time. This gathering, held in partnership with Toledo Spirits, will feature signature cocktails, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, crafted specifically for the occasion. Attendees can also look forward to a live performance by members of the opera’s cast, making it a fitting prelude to the production.
In addition to the entertainment and refreshments, guests will have the chance to win two tickets to the opening night of The Elixir of Love on February 13, 2026, along with a $75 gift certificate for Toledo Spirits/Bellwether. This event promises to be both enjoyable and engaging, setting the stage for the opera’s much-anticipated debut.
The second event, “Top Shelf: A Cocktail Competition of Operatic Proportions,” will follow on February 6, 2026, at 19:00, hosted in the Registry Bistro Ballroom in Toledo, Ohio. This lively showcase, organized by Toledo Opera’s Audience Development Committee, invites local community figures to take on the role of guest mixologists. Each participant will compete to create an original cocktail inspired by the themes of The Elixir of Love.
Among the competing mixologists are notable figures such as Dan Cummins, a news anchor from WTOL; Abby Arnold, Toledo’s Deputy Mayor; and Jessica Crossfield, founder of Handmade Toledo. They will be joined by Angela Lucas, founder of TolHouse; Tony Krncevic; and Dan Kleiboemer, a Merchant Marine Captain. Also participating are J. Ernest Green, the conductor for the production, and David Walton, who will portray Nemorino.
Attendees at the “Top Shelf” event will sample four unique cocktails and enjoy food offerings from Registry Bistro. Mocktails will also be available, ensuring all guests can partake in the festivities. A musical preview from a cast member of The Elixir of Love will further enhance the experience. Guests will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite cocktail by tipping the mixologists, with the highest-earning entry being awarded the Top Shelf Trophy.
With The Elixir of Love set to premiere on February 13, 2026, followed by an additional performance on February 15, 2026, Toledo Opera’s events aim to build excitement and foster community engagement. The combination of opera, mixology, and local personalities is sure to create a memorable lead-up to this beloved production.
