UPDATE: A 55-year-old Longmont man was tragically struck and killed while crossing Main Street on Thursday evening. The incident occurred around 8:50 p.m. in the 1600 block of Main Street, prompting an immediate response from Longmont police.
According to police spokesperson Rogelio Mares, the driver was traveling south in the outside lane when the pedestrian crossed from east to west. Officers arrived on the scene “within seconds” and provided urgent medical assistance, but the man was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver, a resident of Longmont, remained at the scene and is currently cooperating with authorities during the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time, as the cause of the crash is still under review.
The Boulder County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the identity of the victim following official notifications. This tragic incident highlights the ongoing concerns regarding pedestrian safety in busy areas.
