North Dakota Homeowners Rush to Apply for $1,600 Tax Credit

Homeowners in North Dakota have the opportunity to reduce their property tax bills by as much as $1,600 this year. Over 60,000 applications have already been submitted for the state’s primary residence credit just six days after the application window opened, according to State Tax Commissioner Brian Kroshus.

The surge in applications is attributed to a legislative decision to triple the value of the tax credit during the last session. This change has prompted many homeowners to take advantage of the financial relief available to them. Kroshus emphasizes the importance of submitting applications early to address any potential questions or issues that may arise.

“It is crucial for individuals to apply as soon as possible. This way, if we have any questions, we can reach out right away and work with the applicants to ensure that their submissions are complete and accurate,” Kroshus stated.

The deadline for applying for the tax credit is April 1, and homeowners can complete the application online at www.tax.nd.gov/prc. It is important to note that only one credit is permitted per household.

As the deadline approaches, the North Dakota Tax Department encourages homeowners to take advantage of this opportunity. With many individuals already expressing interest, the program is expected to provide significant savings to a large number of residents across the state.
