Jacob Cook Joins Elite 1,000-Point Club for Cobbers Basketball

Concordia College senior Jacob Cook has made his mark in the world of collegiate basketball by scoring his 1,000th career point during a game against St. Scholastica on January 6, 2024. Cook’s impressive performance, which included 28 points, not only highlights his skill on the court but also places him among an elite group of players in Cobbers history.

With this achievement, Cook joins former Cobbers legends Jordan Bolger, John Fraase, and Luke Linz as the only four players in the program’s history to score over 1,000 points and secure more than 500 rebounds during their college careers. This milestone underscores Cook’s significant contributions to the team, which currently holds a record of 9-3 and 2-1 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).

Coach Tyler Bormann praised Cook’s achievement, stating, “I remember watching a few of those players play, and those guys are likely going to be Hall of Famers. I think that speaks for itself. The guys who have done that previously have been transformational players, and Jacob is no different. He’s a transformational player.”

Through 76 games for the Cobbers, Cook has accumulated 1,023 points and 547 rebounds, averaging 21.2 points and 8.9 rebounds per game in the current season. Reflecting on his accomplishment, Cook expressed gratitude for his time at Concordia, stating, “I feel so blessed to be able to compete with a program the last four years that allowed me the opportunity to really flourish and be the best player I could be. It’s super-awesome to hit it. … It’s time to keep working and keep getting after it.”

Cook’s journey to this milestone is noteworthy. He is now the 16th player in Concordia’s history to surpass the 1,000-point mark. The program’s all-time leading scorer is Bob Laney, who achieved 1,847 points during his tenure from 1964 to 1968. The other members of the elite group include Bolger (1,268 points), Fraase (1,114 points), and Linz (1,365 points).

Looking ahead, the Cobbers are set to face off against Carleton on January 10, 2024, at 19:45 local time in Northfield, Minnesota. As the season progresses, Cook’s impact on the team will be crucial as they aim for success in the MIAC.

The achievements of players like Cook extend beyond individual accolades. They contribute to the legacy of collegiate athletics, inspiring future generations to strive for excellence both on and off the court. As the Cobbers continue their campaign, fans and supporters will undoubtedly keep a close eye on Cook’s performance and its ripple effects throughout the team.
