Seven Juveniles Injured in Urgent New Year’s Eve Fire Pit Blaze

UPDATE: A shocking flash fire erupted during a New Year’s Eve gathering, injuring seven juveniles in Berkeley Township, New Jersey, late last night. Officials from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the incident occurred around 10 p.m. at a residence on North Trenton Avenue.

The fire, which ignited from an outdoor fire pit, quickly engulfed the group, leading to immediate action from first responders. Two of the victims were rushed to Community Medical Center in Toms River, while a third was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. Fortunately, all have been treated and released as of this morning, according to Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer.

The remaining four juveniles were released to their parents on-site and did not require medical attention. Despite the serious nature of the incident, no charges have been filed as investigators continue to assess the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the homeowner or whether any adults were present during the incident. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Arson Squad, alongside the Berkeley Township Police Department and the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, is actively investigating the cause of the flash fire.
