Central Florida Warms Up Before Weekend Cold Front Hits

UPDATE: Central Florida is set to experience a brief warming trend today, with temperatures soaring to around 70°F, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Melbourne. As the chill of the new year dissipates, residents can expect overnight lows to climb to the upper 40s.

This warming is temporary, as a cold front is projected to sweep across the Southeast U.S. on Saturday, slightly dropping temperatures and bringing a chance of rain into Sunday. For now, dry conditions are expected today, with high pressure moving east across the Florida peninsula and light westerly winds in effect.

As Friday night approaches, cloud cover will increase ahead of Saturday’s front, with lows reaching the upper 40s. Some rural areas south of I-4 may experience temperatures dipping into the mid-40s. According to the NWS forecaster’s discussion, “Southwesterly flow increases locally ahead of the front, becoming up to 10-15 mph north of I-4 in the afternoon, with a few gusts near 20 mph.”

Saturday will see highs climb to the mid-70s before the cold front arrives, which is associated with a trough moving through the Tennessee Valley. The NWS warns that while most of Saturday will remain dry, the front will move through the area Saturday night, bringing scattered showers.

Looking ahead, Sunday’s temperatures are expected to remain in the 70s across much of the region, with areas north of I-4 dipping into the upper 60s. Overnight lows will settle in the 50s.

As the week progresses, Central Florida will warm even further, with temperatures rising daily to reach the upper 70s to lower 80s by Thursday. Overnight lows are forecast to remain in the 50s, while coastal locations could see temperatures in the lower 60s by late week.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert for the upcoming cold front and potential rain this weekend. With changing weather patterns, the NWS will continue to monitor conditions closely.
