Urgent Update: Taco John’s Returns, Kwik Trip Expands in Fargo-Moorhead

FARGO, MN — Breaking news: The Fargo-Moorhead area is buzzing with significant business developments as 2025 unfolds. Major expansions from Kwik Trip and the triumphant return of Taco John’s are set to reshape the local dining landscape.

Just announced: The first Kwik Trip store opened at 1409 Main Ave. S.E. in Moorhead on October 9, while the first Kwik Star debuted at 2530 12th Ave. S. in Fargo on November 20. Chosen to avoid confusion with the competing QuikTrip chain, Kwik Star is rapidly establishing its presence. Additional locations are planned, including new stores at 4177 Crossroads Drive S. and 4500 block of 37th Avenue South in Fargo.

Kwik Trip is renowned for its fresh, made-to-order food options, including pizzas and breakfast sandwiches. The chain’s commitment to quality has been recognized, winning the title of Best Gas Station Brand in the USA Today 10 Best Readers’ Choice awards for 2025, marking a second consecutive year at the top.

In another exciting development, Taco John’s is making a comeback after more than a year away from the Fargo-Moorhead area. Pentex Restaurant Group, the largest Taco John’s franchisee, filed for a building permit on October 10 to renovate a former location at 4522 26th Ave. S.. CEO Brett Itterman announced plans to reopen this location on January 5, with ambitions to expand to three locations within the next 18 to 24 months.

Meanwhile, Waabigwan Mashkiki, Minnesota’s first tribal cannabis shop not located on a reservation, opened on May 24 at 2902 Highway 10 in Moorhead. This landmark store marks a significant shift in Minnesota’s cannabis landscape, following the legalization of recreational cannabis for adults on August 1, 2023. The White Earth tribe took nearly two years to finalize a compact with the state, allowing this venture to launch.

Owner Darren Dado is also making strides with his project, transforming a former Burger King at 100 21st St. N. into a new cannabis dispensary, Zaza Cannabis. Dado is optimistic about obtaining the necessary permits within eight weeks, aiming to kick off retail sales shortly after.

The indoor entertainment scene is also thriving in Fargo-Moorhead. Levity, an innovative venue featuring an arcade and a tumble gym, opened in June at 344 Sheyenne Street in West Fargo. Co-owner Linzey Erickson highlighted plans for community engagement, including events like “Parent Night Out.”

Additionally, Slick City Action Park launched its exciting new venue at 3430 Jacks Way S. in November, featuring NASA-engineered slides for thrilling experiences. More attractions are on the way, including the upcoming NRG Adventure Park, set to open soon in the former Gordman’s at 5100 14th Ave. S., promising unique activities like a ninja course and foam pit events.

These developments reflect a dynamic business environment in the Fargo-Moorhead area, with new restaurants and entertainment venues offering fresh opportunities for residents and visitors alike. Stay tuned for more updates as these stories continue to unfold.
