South Rowan Girls Basketball Advances with Strong Fourth Quarter

In an exciting first round of the Dale’s Sporting Goods Sam Moir Christmas Classic, the South Rowan girls’ basketball team secured a decisive victory against Salisbury, winning 37-27. The game, held at Goodman Gym in Salisbury, showcased a thrilling turnaround for South Rowan, which improved its record to 7-2.

Salisbury, the seventh seed in the tournament, started strong with a 7-1 lead, but the tide turned as South Rowan found its rhythm. The Raiders struggled initially, not scoring their first field goal until the final moments of the first quarter. By halftime, South Rowan had narrowed the gap to just two points, trailing 14-12.

The third quarter saw South Rowan’s momentum build, largely thanks to strong performances from players like Ella Morgan, who hit a crucial three-pointer to tie the game at 21-21. Day Pharr and Avery Fisher contributed significantly, each scoring two baskets in a fourth quarter where South Rowan outscored the Hornets 16-5. Pharr led the Raiders with a total of nine points, while Keaira Spruill topped the Hornets’ scoring with seven points.
