UPDATE: A tragic snowmobile crash in Washburn, Maine, has claimed the life of a 17-year-old girl and left a 17-year-old boy with serious injuries. The incident occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on January 6, 2024, when the snowmobile, driven by the boy with the girl as a passenger, failed to navigate a sharp turn on Story Street.
According to the Maine Warden Service, the snowmobile was traveling at a high rate of speed when it veered off course, struck a curb, flipped over, and ejected both teenagers. The vehicle then crashed into the side of a nearby house. Tragically, the girl was pronounced dead at the scene, while the boy was rushed to Cary Medical Center in Caribou before being transferred to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for further treatment.
Both teenagers were wearing helmets at the time of the accident, highlighting the unpredictable dangers associated with snowmobiling. The names of the victims are currently being withheld as the investigation continues.
