UPDATE: A Florida man has been arrested after a shocking incident where he allegedly attacked a Publix manager with a donation kettle tripod. The event occurred on November 14, 2023, outside the Publix located on Kanner Highway in Stuart, Florida.
Authorities from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office report that Steven Pavlik, aged 63, was volunteering for the Salvation Army when he became aggressive, leading to his arrest. He has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest without violence.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene outside the store. Pavlik, who had been ringing the bell for donations since Thanksgiving, reportedly became intoxicated and belligerent while on duty. Instead of spreading holiday cheer, he allegedly confronted pedestrians aggressively, creating a significant disturbance.
According to the sheriff’s office, the situation escalated when the Publix manager intervened. Pavlik attempted to use the sharp end of the donation kettle tripod to attack the manager, aiming to “spear” him in the chest, as stated in the arrest report.
The sheriff’s office detailed the incident in a Facebook post, stating, “Drunk ringing, belligerent tidings and assault took him from bell duty to booking blotter after a full blown charity tirade.”
After fleeing the scene, Pavlik was located and arrested at his home later that day. The incident has raised concerns about volunteer safety and the impact of alcohol consumption during community service.
As the investigation continues, community members are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior. Authorities emphasize the importance of maintaining safety during charitable events, especially as the holiday season approaches.
