The 2025 high school football season has concluded with notable achievements across Northern California, highlighted by the CIF state championships held recently in Southern California. Schools such as Chico High School and Redding Christian emerged victorious, showcasing resilience and talent throughout the season.
In a remarkable turnaround, Chico High School captured the Northern Section Division II title, defeating Red Bluff after a challenging 1-9 season in 2024. Similarly, Gridley triumphed in the NSCIF Division III championships, finishing with an undefeated record. Winters claimed the NSCIF Division IV championship, overcoming Hamilton and its perfect season. The highlight of the season came from Redding Christian, which finished with a flawless record of 15-0 and secured the NSCIF Division V championship.
During the CIF state bracket, Chico faced a formidable opponent, losing a close match to the eventual Division 5-AA state champions, Bishop O’Dowd, with a final score of 23-20. Gridley also encountered a tough battle in the Division 6-AA semifinals, falling 28-20 to Lincoln. In contrast, Winters advanced smoothly to the Division 6-A finals, winning decisively against Morse with a score of 28-7. Redding Christian’s journey included a narrow semifinal victory against Middletown, winning 22-18, followed by a dominating performance in the Division 7-AA final against Woodbridge, where they secured a 16-0 victory.
All-League Selections Highlight Top Performers
As the season concludes, the All-League selections have been announced, recognizing outstanding players across various leagues. The teams are chosen by local coaches, reflecting the depth of talent in the region.
In the Eastern Athletic League, Titus Andrus from Pleasant Valley was named Offensive MVP, while Jaret Bridwell from Red Bluff earned the title of Defensive MVP. Other notable selections include Zaiveon Patrick and Shamar Riley from Chico, along with several standout players from Pleasant Valley.
The Westside League saw Luke Schager of Orland recognized as Offensive MVP, with Jason Davis from Gridley taking home the Defensive MVP award. The Mid-Valley League honored Kayden Strong from Hamilton as Offensive MVP and Cesar Leal as Defensive MVP.
Additionally, the Northern Athletic League named Dowan Stephens of Lassen as its MVP, and Dathen Moore received the Offensive Player of the Year award. The Shasta Cascade League celebrated Darren Goodman from Redding Christian as Offensive MVP, while Wes Dresselhaus from Trinity was honored as MVP Backs.
Coaching Excellence Recognized
Coaching achievements were also acknowledged, with Aaron Elliot from Hamilton named Coach of the Year for his leadership throughout the season. Other coaches celebrated included Gerald Piper from Redding Christian and Mike Miller from Hayfork, each leading their teams to significant successes.
