Eric Kjar, a highly successful high school football coach, has been appointed as the new head football coach at Weber State. This announcement was made on Tuesday, marking a significant transition for both Kjar and the Wildcats’ football program.
Kjar, who previously led Corner Canyon High School, boasts an impressive record of seven 6A state championships, just one shy of the state record. During his 14 seasons at Corner Canyon, he achieved a stellar overall record of 112-10, with six of those titles coming in the last eight years, including two remarkable three-peat victories. His tenure culminated in a state championship win in November, and his team also participated in the inaugural high school national championship game against St. Francis Academy.
In a statement about his new role, Kjar expressed enthusiasm for leading Weber State, stating, “I believe strongly in the administration and the current roster and the talent in the state of Utah. I know we can build a championship-caliber program at Weber State, and I look forward to the challenge and getting started. Go Wildcats!”
Building on a Legacy
Weber State’s athletics director, Tim Crompton, praised Kjar’s leadership qualities, emphasizing his deep connections to Utah and his proven ability to develop talent. “Coach Kjar is absolutely the right leader at the right time,” Crompton said. He noted that Kjar’s commitment to building a program grounded in talent and character aligns perfectly with Weber State’s goals.
Kjar’s coaching career has been marked by his success in nurturing players who later excelled in collegiate and professional football. Notably, he coached Zach Wilson, who was selected second overall by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft, and Jaxson Dart, who was drafted 25th by the New York Giants in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Crompton highlighted the significance of Kjar’s appointment, stating, “This is an exciting day not just for Weber State athletics, but for the entire institution and community.” He emphasized the values that Kjar shares with the university and his potential to energize the program.
A New Chapter for Weber State Football
Kjar takes over at a pivotal moment for Weber State football. With aspirations for a stronger presence in collegiate athletics, the program is eager to leverage Kjar’s experience and vision. His reputation for recruiting and developing student-athletes who embody the university’s core values is expected to yield a new era of success.
As Kjar transitions into his role, he brings with him a family of four children, solidifying his roots in the community. The excitement surrounding his hiring is palpable, as both the athletics department and local supporters anticipate a bright future under his leadership.
With Kjar at the helm, Weber State football aims to enhance its competitive stature and foster a culture of excellence, making strides toward championship aspirations in the seasons to come.
