Salvation Army Urgently Seeks Hundreds of Toys for 400 Families

URGENT UPDATE: The Salvation Army is racing against the clock, urgently seeking hundreds more toy donations to ensure 400 local families in San Diego can celebrate a joyful Christmas. With just one week remaining before toy distribution begins, the organization is falling critically short of its goal.

Inside the Salvation Army Kroc Center warehouse, toys including basketballs, dolls, and arts supplies are piled high, but they still do not meet the demand. “Even something like a Barbie house is set aside for families who have faced particularly tough times this year,” stated Glynis Eckert, the center’s director of marketing. The organization has a significant shortage across multiple age groups, especially for older children.

“The age groups that receive the most donations typically cater to younger children, but our pre-selected families can register children from 0 to 12 years old,” explained Janet Reade, director of volunteers and community engagement. “We urgently need toys for those older age groups.” Time is slipping away.

Next week, parents from a pre-registered list will select toys for their children. The Salvation Army aims to provide each family with three to four toys per child. “We hope to ensure every parent can choose enough toys for their children,” Eckert emphasized. Without adequate donations, the Salvation Army may need to purchase toys, straining its resources and impacting its broader mission of spreading holiday joy.

The organization is committed to delivering a complete Christmas experience, aiming to provide families with “a sack full of toys, along with gift wrap, bows, and food boxes,” Eckert noted. This ensures families feel they have truly experienced the holiday spirit.

Donations can be made directly at the Kroc Center, online, or through monetary contributions. Those wishing to help can click here to donate. Every contribution counts in making this season brighter for families in need.

As the clock ticks down to Christmas, the community’s support is more crucial than ever. The Salvation Army urges everyone to join their efforts and help make this holiday season special for those who need it most.
