Celebrating the Life of Dr. Harold Meredith Klonecky, 98

Dr. Harold Meredith Klonecky, a beloved educator and community member, passed away at the age of 98 in Torrance, California, on November 16, 2025. His life was marked by a commitment to education, community service, and a passion for the arts.

A Life Dedicated to Education

Born on May 22, 1927, in Dickinson, North Dakota, to Irma and Constant Klonecky, Hal, as he was affectionately known, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Dickinson State University. His career began in education, where he taught English and Drama. In 1955, he relocated to California, where he continued his teaching career at North High School in Torrance.

Dr. Klonecky’s dedication to teaching led him to pursue further education, earning a Doctorate of Education from the University of Southern California. His impact on students was profound, culminating in a distinguished 25-year tenure at Torrance High School, where he served as both Assistant Principal and Principal before retiring in 1987.

A Passionate Community Member

Throughout his life, Dr. Klonecky was known for his kindness and patience, qualities that endeared him to students, faculty, and parents alike. Even into his later years, he remained active in the community, participating in events with Torrance High School retirees. He embraced life fully, enjoying activities such as golfing and reading, particularly mysteries.

Social gatherings showcased his talents beyond academics; he was an accomplished dancer and a sought-after partner at various events. His warmth extended not just to people but also to animals, reflecting his compassionate nature.

Dr. Klonecky is survived by his family, including Theresa and Jeff Heiney and their son, Erick, as well as Jen and Patrick Sullivan and their children Kieran, Aidan, Declan, and Bridget. He was predeceased by his son, Christopher Klonecky.

The family invites friends and community members to celebrate the life of Dr. Klonecky on December 15, 2025, with a Visitation and Rosary service from 16:00 to 20:00 at Coastal Funeral Center, located at 25001 Narbonne Ave, Lomita. A Funeral Mass will take place the following day, December 16, 2025, at 10:00 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 25511 Eshelman Ave, Lomita. Following the Mass, a reception will be held at Hof’s Hut at 11:30 at 23635 Crenshaw Blvd, Torrance, providing an opportunity for those who knew him to share stories and fond memories.

Dr. Klonecky’s legacy will continue through the lives he touched, and he will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to education and his compassionate spirit.
