UPDATE: Jaguar’s striking Type 00 has reemerged in London, igniting excitement just ahead of its anticipated production launch in 2026. The extravagant electric vehicle (EV) was showcased outside a luxury hotel to commemorate 90 years since the first Jaguar, the 1935 SS Jaguar.
Jaguar’s decision to spotlight the Type 00 comes amidst reports of a leadership shakeup, with parent company Tata Motors reportedly dismissing design chief Gerry McGovern earlier this week. This extravagant reveal at Chancery Rosewood has attracted a crowd of luxury car enthusiasts, showcasing the brand’s shift towards higher luxury, aiming to compete with the likes of Bentley instead of BMW.
The Type 00, resprayed in a striking London Red matte finish, stands out among luxury vehicles like the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Bentley Bentayga. While its eye-catching design drives conversations, it also raises questions about Jaguar’s strategy.
Jaguar plans to target a completely new customer base, with 85 percent of future buyers expected to be first-time clients. Managing director Rawdon Glover confirmed that the starting price will be around $130,000, positioning the Type 00 similarly to the Porsche Taycan 4S. However, the official launch of the production model has been delayed until 2026, with deliveries anticipated to begin before the end of next year.
Despite the controversy surrounding its design, Glover emphasized that Jaguar aims to create a vehicle that elicits a “real visceral reaction.” The bold move comes as Jaguar phases out all combustion engine models, including the F-Pace, which will be discontinued by 2026. This change marks a significant transition for the iconic brand, as it focuses solely on electric vehicles.
As the automotive world buzzes about the Type 00, Jaguar’s ambitious plans and dramatic new direction signal a pivotal moment for the company. Enthusiasts and potential buyers alike are urged to stay tuned for further updates as Jaguar embarks on this electrifying journey.
