Timothy Andrew McGowan, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry and a passionate theatre enthusiast, passed away in 2025 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was 68 years old. Born in 1957 in Brooklyn, New York, Tim was the third of six children in a family of Irish descent, raised by his parents, James and Joan McGowan.
In 1966, Tim’s family relocated to Maywood, New Jersey, where he spent his formative years and attended Our Lady Queen of Peace. Five years later, in 1971, the McGowan family moved to California, settling in the San Fernando Valley in 1972. Tim attended Chaminade High School, a community that remained important to him throughout his life.
Career and Personal Life
Tim’s professional journey began at Columbia Pictures, where he joined as a research analyst in 1985. Over the years, he rose to the position of Vice President of Research at CBS/KCAL-9, significantly influencing the landscape of television research.
In 1986, while performing at the Showboat Theatre, he met Susan McDermott, whom he married in 1987. Together, they welcomed two sons: Matthew, born in 1989, and Morgan, born in 1992. Later in life, Tim reconnected with Pamela Meyer, a former classmate from Chaminade, and they shared a devoted partnership for over 15 years, traveling extensively together.
Tim returned to the theatre scene in 2010, participating in numerous productions in the Santa Clarita area after a 25-year hiatus. During this time, he also became a dual citizen of Ireland and earned two associate degrees.
Health Challenges and Legacy
In 2022, Tim successfully battled duodenal cancer. Unfortunately, in late 2024, he faced a new challenge with a diagnosis of leukemia. Despite these health struggles, he remained a source of inspiration to those around him.
Tim is survived by his life partner, Pam; his sons, Matthew and Morgan; and his siblings, Terry, Jim, Colleen, and Cathy. His contributions to both the entertainment industry and the community will be deeply missed, and he will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
