Redondo Union Boys Basketball Triumphs 87-61 Over Democracy Prep

UPDATE: The Redondo Union boys basketball team dominated Democracy Prep with an impressive 87-61 victory during Harvard-Westlake’s Winter Showcase on Friday. Led by SJ Madison, who scored 23 points and recorded six rebounds, four steals, and two blocks, the Sea Hawks improved their record to 3-0.

This win comes on the heels of last season’s heartbreaking loss in the CIF State regional semifinals, just seven points shy of the finals. Determined to avoid a repeat, Redondo Union has crafted a tough nonleague schedule to prepare for the Bay League and the CIF-SS playoffs.

Early in the game, the Sea Hawks faced a competitive match, but after a crucial timeout, they surged with a 21-6 run, taking control of the game. Madison remarked, “We started to pick it up in the second quarter and things just went from there. We are trying to beat everyone. We don’t want to lose at all.”

Madison’s second-half performance was pivotal, scoring eight of the first twelve points as Redondo Union expanded their lead to an impressive 31 points midway through the third quarter. Despite a late push from Democracy Prep, who narrowed the gap to 19 points, Redondo quickly responded, maintaining their dominance.

Devin Wright also shone with 17 points, adding critical energy and playmaking throughout the game. He emphasized the team’s commitment to maintaining an aggressive mindset, stating, “We all have worked so hard in the offseason learning a lot from last year, and we don’t want to let that happen again.”

Coach Reggie Morris acknowledged the need for improvement despite the victory. “We didn’t get off to a good start in the first half. I just told my guys that they have to start playing with more urgency and get more aggressive on defense,” he said. Morris highlighted Madison’s leadership and performance as key to the Sea Hawks’ success, but noted there is still room for growth.

The Sea Hawks are on a mission this season, with aspirations of returning to the CIF State finals. Their next match will be crucial in continuing their momentum as they prepare for an increasingly competitive season ahead.

This victory not only boosts the team’s morale but also sets the stage for their upcoming challenges. Fans are eager to see how Redondo Union navigates the remainder of their schedule, aiming to solidify their place among the best in California basketball.
