A tragic avalanche struck the base camp of Mount Yalung Ri in Nepal on April 17, 2023, resulting in the deaths of five foreign climbers and two local guides. According to Shailendra Thapa, spokesperson for the Armed Police Force, the avalanche occurred at an altitude of 16,070 feet, where climbers were preparing for their ascent to the summit.
In addition to the fatalities, five other individuals sustained injuries during the incident. The nationalities and identities of the deceased climbers have not yet been officially confirmed. However, local media sources suggest that some of the victims are U.S. citizens, raising concerns among their families and friends back home.
